Senate Offers Latest Interoperability Plan

January 27, 2016

From HFMA:

New EHR interoperability legislation drew praise from some hospital advocates. The Bill includes authorization for OIG investigatoins of “data blocking.” The leaders of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee said thedraft legislation was the product of a health IT working group and a series of interoperability hearings dating to March 2015.

Each legislation seemingly puts pressure on EHR vendors to stop data blocking. What needs to be defined is, exactly, what data blocking is and what non-data blocking looks like, because it could vary widely and be unenforceable.
